Hello Weezl!

A newbie on MSE I stumbled across your first challenge and ended up spending the last three days sending the children out to play in the traffic so i could read through it!

Just started reading through your new thread, or at least the next thread, and came across the link to your blog - hurray!

Cannot wait to find out about more of your adventures - looking at the pics you seem to be having some.

Already need to say thank you for the home dried toms recipe and stopping me being scared about using red lentils.

Sorry for really long comment. Just wanted to say hello and confirm you have another fan!

I've done it - I've made my bread. And it is great! It was longer than I expected before I got around to making it because I happened to get to the supermarket just as they reduced all the bread to 5p-15p depending on size and type. Most of it was cheaper than buying the flour so I couldn't walk past a bargain like that. The shop had overstocked on broccoli too and had reduced about 10 trays to 15p per kilo. We've eaten lots of broccoli recently... :)

Thanks for the help and the inspiration

ours are all devastatingly green. keep persuading myself that they are getting "less green"!! Plenty of time for them to ripen though! Otherwise I can share a recipe for green tomato chutney! Love your work on MSE, you're a legend, even if you did keep me up til after 5am this morning!

Good Evening Weezl!
I've been reading all about your challenge, and I also see you have quite a following!!
Can I assume that you are pretty much meat free in this challenge? Have you resorted to mooching about in shop bins in your freeganism yet?!
We are trying a slightly different challenge - a zero waste challenge...we already only put out one bin bag for the bin men (considering our non-eco nappies!) compared to the 6 or 7 that our friends put out! So I'm going to see if we can get it down even further. My Gramdma only puts out one small carrier bag and that's my aim...may be easier when lil'un is potty trained!
Would love to learn more from you, wise sage that you are!! Love prestie123 xxx

Hi Jo,

With the fresh yeast I usually use warm water from the tap and a little sugar, then watch for a tiny foam/froth on the surface (very tiny) and then I know it's ok!
