Bake for 25 mins on gas mark 6, or until browned on top and sounds hollow when tapped with a knuckle.

Hurrah for Weezl’s new blog! Also, how much yeast is needed for this recipe? Am I reading it wrong?

Hi Weezl!
Could you tell me how much dry yeast to use to make the bread please?

Hi plum pie, I don’t think you’re reading it wrong, although I may have typed it wrong! Fresh yeast-wise I use approx 20g fresh yeast for the batch of 4 loaves.
Thanks greenie
Julie, hiya, I use 1 sachet of dried yeast from asda which weighs 7g when I use the dried stuff. At my local asda they do still give away the fresh stuff!!

Hey Weezl, fab recipes and piccies. I think you can ripen toms, by just leaving them on the window ledge.

Please can you say how exactly you use the fresh yeast please? Do you cream it with a bit of sugar or …..?
Thank you!
School is out – YIPPEE so I can get on with a proper bit of home cooking and bread is very high on the list

Hi Jo,
With the fresh yeast I usually use warm water from the tap and a little sugar, then watch for a tiny foam/froth on the surface (very tiny) and then I know it’s ok!

I’ve done it – I’ve made my bread. And it is great! It was longer than I expected before I got around to making it because I happened to get to the supermarket just as they reduced all the bread to 5p-15p depending on size and type. Most of it was cheaper than buying the flour so I couldn’t walk past a bargain like that. The shop had overstocked on broccoli too and had reduced about 10 trays to 15p per kilo. We’ve eaten lots of broccoli recently…
Thanks for the help and the inspiration
